The following is a revised version of a promo piece to encourage people to visit Whole Food’s “Tasting Night”. I modified the ending so that it feels more like a falling feather and locks up with the logo more logically. I hope for this to be good enough to submit for the ADC show.

And in a totally unrelated moment in history… A young Rip Thorn made a movie in the 70′s where the climax of the film was improvised. With real life frustration towards the actor/director Norman Mailer and with the script asking for him to stop Mailer from “assassinating the president,” Thorn uses a hammer and attacks Mailer really physically hurting him. The fight is compelling enough to actually make it into the final cut of the movie. And they say Christian Bale yelling was bad.

The following is a revised version of a promo piece to encourage people to visit Whole Food’s “Tasting Night”. The piece has been made a little longer. The motions should be more interesting and lively and the colors especially. The end should have greater contrast so it would be easier to read.

The following is a revision for a promo piece meant to advertise the “Behind the Screen” exhibition at the Museum of the Moving Image.

I adjusted the opening screen, fixed the music and tweaked the ending a bit.

The following is a revision for a promo piece meant to advertise the “Behind the Screen” exhibition at the Museum of the Moving Image. I tried to execute a better projection solution adding grain and giving it higher contrast. I’ve made adjustments to the sound design and hopefully now it is clearer than before.

ANDY KAUFMAN is an eccentric comedian who rose to fame in the 70′s up until his untimely death in the mid-80′s. His unconventional humor provided a unique level of entertainment. Sometimes the “punchlines” to his “joke” was the audience, innovating a wholly personal and unique genre of comedy.

CONCEPT:
One of Kaufman’s biggest breaks came when he innocently lip-synced the chorus to the “Might Mouse” theme song.

The concept takes this defining moment in his career and tuns with it. Using the classic karaoke-bouncing-ball-routine as a jumping off point, the ball transforms into Kaufman’s body. The lyrics gradually grows to become obstacles he must overcome. The lyrics highlighted provide an ironic foreshadowing to how tragic Kaufman’s life actually turned out. I used his vaudevillian comedic set as a visual language to illusutrate his career.

WHOLE FOODS, is a food retailer of “natural” and organic products. In Union Square they have a glorified free sampler event called “TASTING NIGHT.” This a motion piece to promote the event.

CONCEPT:
The piece is about the tension and energy enclosed in food ready to burst and be appreciated by the taster. The bright and saturated color palette accentuates the jovial, high energy flavors and not only matches the friendly atmosphere of the Whole Food brand, but kicks up the excitement level a notch.

Although visually and conceptually I’m happy with it, executing it has been quite a struggle. I suppose my biggest hurdle is finding creative ways to incorporate the footage I have, make it work with the “Tropic Thunder” footage. (I chose “Tropic Thunder” because it is a perfect example of filming a film – “Behind the Screen”) and still share my concept.

I’m still trying to find audio to complete the ending of the video, but I think right now I want to edit it and make it tighter, more dynamic and interesting.
